Ford is testing the 2019 Ranger in Las Vegas against the truck's main competition.
In the photos, we see a host of new Rangers, all of whom carry bumpers and different grille combinations. Most of the badges shown in the photos tell us that these Rangers are XLT or Lariat trim.
Among the assaults of Ford's new mid-size pickups, a single Chevrolet Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma can be seen, no doubt to provide engineers with a competitive data set. The Colorado seems to be a standard model and not the ZR2 off-road variant, although the Tacoma seems to be a TRD Off-Road model.
Up to now, Ford has announced that only one engine option for the 2019 Ranger, so it makes sense that the brand would test a new second choice. At launch, the Ranger will be exclusively available with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, hitched to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Mid-size trucks from Chevrolet and Toyota use naturally aspirated four- or six-cylinder engines, so Ford may be testing something without a turbocharger for the Ranger. A diesel option could also be in the cards for the Ranger to better compete with the Colorado Chevy and GMC Canyon, but of course, Ford has been limited on other engine choices, if any, will become available.
The mere fact that Ford is out of the tests is a good sign that the Ranger 2019 hardware is being updated.
We really hope that Ford will test parts for its new version. Ranger Raptor off-road truck that we hope to see soon. Recently, a left-hand truck version was tested in North America, further showing that Ford had developed a medium-sized Raptor.
We will have to wait and see.
