The government has so far provided about 14.9 million pesos of assistance to affected families by non-stop monsoon rains

Virginia Orogo, Acting Secretary of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), went to the Ilocos area over the weekend to distribute relief families and those affected by the Southwest monsoon or "habagat".

The DSWD office in the Ilocos region continues to extend its assistance to other affected provinces. the region, including the town of Calasiao in Pangasinan, which has been submerged in the waters since last week.

She delivered 1,800 food parcels and 150 family kits to the municipality over the weekend.

the DSWD-Disaster Response Management Office, a total of 203,032 families or 914,338 people were affected by the southwestern monsoon in 752 barangays in the Ilocos region, central Luanda, Western Visayas, Region Administrative Council, National Capital Region and Southern Luzon

At least 5,430 families or 23,383 people are still in 135 evacuation centers, while 64,594 families or 257,958 people are currently staying with their parents and friends.

Orogo advised people or families staying in evacuation centers to report any undesirable incidents in the centers.

"We encourage affected residents to immediately report any problem of harassment or abuse in evacuation centers. "The DSWD works closely with local authorities to maintain safe evacuation sites for women and children, but we need everyone's cooperation to prevent untoward incidents," she added. For any form of harassment or aggression, report it immediately to our social workers present in the evacuation centers or to the competent authorities. Orogo assured the relevant local government units of ongoing coordination for the processing and evaluation of family food package applications.
