Gunman kills Sta. Catalina official village

A government official was killed by a single gunman Saturday morning in Zamboanga City, police said.

Inspector Shellamie Chang, Information Officer of the Zamboanga Police Bureau, identified Michael Magallanes as three village councilors (kagawad) of Sta. Catalina

Chang said that Magallanes had been shot several times by a lone gunman at 7:19 am on Saturday at Betty 2 in the village of Sta. Catalina, this city.

Chang said the initial investigation showed that Magallanes was driving the motorcycle on its way to a feeding program in Luster Street, Sta. Catalina when shot by the shooter.

The village official was transported to the hospital but expired a few minutes later under medical treatment.

Police gathered that the bandits fled towards the Barangay Tetouan leadership after the incident.

The murdered official is active in community service and is the president of the Rotary Club of Zamboanga West at the time of his death.

The victim served as treasurer of the village of Sta. Catalina before being elected kagawad in the elections of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan on May 14, 2018.
