Here's why I think the Huawei P20 Pro is better than the iPhone X

[ad_1]

The iPhone X remains one of the most discussed phones in 2017 and 2018. The iPhone X has been Apple's main source of revenue for the whole year and is the first phone to trigger the trend without glasses. To compete with the iPhone X, the Chinese smartphone giant Huawei launched the P20 Pro, a phone with almost the same technical specifications. The P20 Pro has been launched with a triple-lens camera configuration at the rear, making it the first smartphone to come with this configuration. Soon, other Android manufacturers have followed suit.

However, most of them went in vain since the pioneer / trend-setter of the industry captured most of the market soon in its launch. On the other hand, the iPhone X, with its bionic chip A11 and its amazing screen without bezel manages to impress the average user enough to a large extent. Unfortunately, only the average user. Being a technology and especially a smartphone geek, I found the P20 Pro to be better than the iPhone X. Here's how:

The overall look of the phone [19659029

The overall appearance of the phone consists of the body, the rim around the body and other design elements that make up the outside of the phone. Let's start with the iPhone X:

The iPhone X has a glass bottom paired with a stainless steel rim surrounding the glass.

The model I had was money and boy, the look of the phone amazed me beyond words. The back of the iPhone X is elegantly labeled with the Apple symbol and slightly above the apple comes the dual-purpose camera.

To make icing on the cake, a small text is placed in the lower half of the back of the phone. "IPhone."

God, the feeling that this phone gives is absolutely out of this world.

To strengthen the agreement, the social acceptance factor associated with iPhones in Pakistan is really high and this case is no different. Being the owner of an iPhone X is a statement of its own!

On the front, the iPhone X has a 5.8-inch screen with narrow edges on the sides and the front of the phone. Oh, and how could I forget the not-so-appreciated notch? The notch is hardly observable when the screen is off. Light it well, pouf. I do not know about you, but seeing the notch every time I turned on the phone gave me a feeling of disgust and made me wonder: What about me? did Apple think in the name of God?

You create a masterpiece of a phone, you gift it with the best display in the industry and in the end, you snap a notch on it; Apple, why?

Now let's move on to the P20 Pro. The phone's glass shocked me beyond words. You charge Rs.99,999 (really cheeky, Huawei, but I doubt that people buy the mental manipulation effort) for a phone that looks like one of its cheaper siblings. I got the P20 Pro in Twilight hue thinking it would be something rare but I did not know that there was a reason why it's rare!

I put the P20 Pro and the Huawei Mate 10 Lite and I could hardly tell the difference. Two

The Twilight shade paired with the stainless steel rim around the phone made a clumsy color combination.

Note, however, that the steel rim is really useful for increasing the grip of the phone. when you hold it without a blanket. Whatever the case may be, in spite of this, there is no denying that the P20's rear camera completely changes the feel of the phone and manages to give an impression of superior quality that is enough to change your opinion on the phone. Well, he has at least changed mine.

On the front, the P20 has a significant amount of telescope on the bottom thanks to the fingerprint sensor that also serves as a home button when the phone is unlocked. The 6.1-inch screen goes from the fingerprint sensor to the top of the phone, which I could add, also has a notch. Fortunately, the size of the phone makes the notch a little unobservable. In addition, the P20 allows you to disable the notch . Good game, Huawei, well played.

On a side note though, the glass back of both phones is prone to spots and ruins the look of both. I guess that's what you have to bear with all the glass backs, right?

Verdict : The iPhone X wins. The glass back paired with the stainless steel rim makes the phone amazing and the P20's glass just can not compete.

Camera

Apple and Huawei own the cameras of their smartphones. The camera of the iPhone X was awarded with a score of 97 by DxOMark which is a leading authority for the testing and classification of smartphone cameras. To give you a perspective, the Mate 10 Pro has the same rating. If it was not already obvious, the iPhone X does not even get close to the P20 Pro, which has a rating of 109!

But I'm not a guy who makes statistics. I am extroverted and this habit has forced me out, to test the cameras of both phones. So one fine morning in June, I took a friend and I went out to capture the scenes in Old Lahore.

It had been raining in Lahore for two days and this morning was no different. A slight drizzle made the weather in June generally hot for us. Arriving in Old Lahore, we went directly to Minar-E-Pakistan, which is located in Greater Iqbal Park. We were greeted by lush green grass supplemented by unfortunate puddles here and there. Whatever the case may be, without further ado, let yourself be guided through the pictures taken during my visit:

The P20 Pro's camera succeeds in taking exhilarating photos in almost all conditions. lighting. In the last picture, you can clearly see one of my friends pose (not) while I take his picture in a dimly lit room. The bokeh effect greatly increases the appeal of each photo.

As can be seen in the photos above, the P20's photos provide clear details of what is filmed without over-pixelating the image. This does not mean that the iPhone X is absolutely useless though. The X's portrait mode shook beyond words. The immense quality of concentration on an object associated with the perfection of the background made the image absolutely incredible.

Verdict : Out of the comparison, the P20 in most scenarios it is the obvious winner

Battery Life

I am a social media monster. I'm on Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook almost every minute of the day. Unfortunately, all these apps are battery-intensive, especially Snapchat, which runs continuously in the background. These requirements mean that I need phones with long lifetimes and sadly, the iPhone has enormously disappointed me.

Referring to my visit to Old Lahore once again, I billed both phones that day. % when I left my house. The Huawei P20 Pro lasted until 22 hours that night while I had to put the iPhone X in charge at exactly 15 o'clock

The battery of the X has almost disappeared within 8 hours while the Pro lasted about 16 hours.

It was then that both phones were running 4G LTE connections simultaneously while I used Snapchat repeatedly to capture the beautiful scenery of Old Lahore. While the iPhone X provides no estimate of the remaining time on the current battery charge, the P20 does, and that's how much the phone can last on a 74% charge:
]

Verdict : The battery capacities of both phones differ considerably. The iPhone X has a battery capacity of 2716 mAh while the P20 has a capacity of 4000 mAh. While this makes comparison a little unfair, Apple should have put a bigger battery in the X considering that it's their flagship product. So, the P20 wins once more.

Loading speed

I like to go out and I do not have powerbank. This causes the need for a fast charge and unfortunately the charge of the iPhone X does not meet my needs at all. The P20 Pro comes with a fast charger from the factory so you have to buy a separate quick charger for the iPhone X, a 30W power brick that costs $ 49, the only one you can buy. equivalent to approximately Rs. 6500. In addition, you will need to purchase a separate USB-C to Lightning cable that starts at $ 19.

Putting it side by side, the P20 Pro takes about 80 minutes to go from 0 to 90 while the iPhone X takes more than 150 minutes.

So, needless to say, you are probably better off buying the iPhone X if you are indoors most of the time or if you have a powerbank on you all the time. But again, most people do not like the idea of keeping their powerbanks charged all the time, so this argument is not really valid

Verdict : The P20 Pro wins the obvious victory here. The loading speed of the iPhone X itself is not fast enough and normal users like me would not like the idea of splashing more and more. money on a separate fast charger after spending more than Rs.120000 for the phone itself

The iPhone X has a screen of 5 , 8 inches with a minimum of glasses that surround it except the top of the screen where the notch is present. The X-Screen is a Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen, manufactured and supplied by Samsung. The display has a resolution of 1125 × 2436 pixels. In addition, it also has 3D touch support. But, we do not care about the technical specifications, is not it? Let's move on to use.

Two days after use, the screen of the iPhone X began to show some scratches.

Despite Apple's statement that the X-screen was scratch-resistant, the screen had visible scratches. This has irritated me beyond the words because it is not what you expect from a phone that costs Rs.120000.

The notch of the X's caused a lot of inconvenience. When using Snapchat, there were many occasions where I could not see the full user name of someone I was chatting with. In other cases, the nick would go in between the contact names while I was receiving a text message, and so on.

An interesting feature is TrueTone, which adjusts the temperature of the screen according to environmental conditions. This made use of it quite easy when I moved into a dimly lit room in my home's well-lit living room. Overall, I do not think the X display is special or unique and I have hardly felt a difference between the release of the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 Plus (minus the notch obvious).

Coming to the P20, the 6.1- The display in inches m impressed beyond words. The size of the screen makes viewing the video an absolute pleasure.

1080p videos on YouTube turn like a charm.

In addition, I loved the responsiveness of the display. Open Snapchat, then open Instagram followed by WhatsApp or Facebook was an experience in itself, to be very honest. The virtual keys at the bottom allow quick navigation through applications, thanks to the Home button and the current feature of applications that allows you to change the application simultaneously without much effort. To my delight, the P20's screen showed virtually no signs of use during the week (pfft, Apple, please learn a thing or two).

Verdict : While the iPhone X has been praised users in the past, I do not find any feature that puts the X above its competitors. Because of this, I'm afraid the P20 wins.

Unlock Face and Biometrics

Boy, when the iPhone X was announced, his Face ID made the whole industry talk. The fanciful discussion of 300 data points based on 3D face recognition was the topic of discussion in the city and I really do not see why. I found that the X's Face ID was extremely fishy and slow.

It failed to unlock the phones in 4 out of 10 attempts.

Although this does not appear to be a big figure, expectations are generally high in the case of Apple's products because of their stature and unfortunately they did not meet my expectations this time.

To make matters worse, the iPhone X does not have a fingerprint sensor, which means that the only biometric unlocking function is unlocking. Things have really been annoying when trying to use the X bike. People stared at me as if I were naked and believe me this feeling is certainly not something you would like. To put the nail in the coffin, you must sweep after the phone is unlocked using Face ID. Why, Apple, why?

Contrary to this, the P20 has both a Face Unlock feature with a fingerprint sensor.

The P20's Face Unlock is the best I've ever seen. It takes just a quarter of a second to unlock the phone, even in low light conditions.

After using the face ID of the iPhone X, the P20's Face Unlock feels like a blessing. I have absolutely no hesitation in using the P20's Face Unlock every time I'm out of it. In fact, I have shown the effectiveness of Face Unlock in front of all my friends and colleagues and I can testify that none of them have objected to that.

To soften the case, the P20's fingerprint sensor is extremely fluid. He manages to unlock the phone in the blink of an eye and it is extremely convenient when I do not want to put the phone on my face, like when I get up from sleep and start using the phone while lying down. If I had to make a complaint against the P20, it's because it does not allow me to use the fingerprint sensor every time I hold the phone – this is the only way I can do it. that's when his Face Unlock is so fast.

I love is the App Lock on the P20. Access to applications can be restricted by using your fingerprint with a PIN code different from that of your phone. I love this feature because my phone is in the hands of others quite often and frankly I hate the idea that people take a look at my stuff.

Verdict : This is a clear victory for the P20. The iPhone X does not even approach the P20 in this regard. If I could address myself to Apple now, I'd have one thing to say: running for a screen without a telescope is useless unless to ensure user convenience in the biometrics section .

OS and Interface

The P20 Pro is powered by Android Oreo 8.1.0. Coupled with 6GB of RAM, the Oreo software gives a phenomenal experience. Again, I will highlight the fact that I am a social media monster. I have to switch from one application to the other and the navigation keys of the P20 contribute a lot. For example, I was able to switch from one application to the other 40 times in one minute. This does not include use and is based on switching between dormant applications only.

In addition, the recent functionality of the P20's applications helps to switch between the two most recent applications at the touch of a button. Just double-tap the Recent Apps button in the navigation bar to switch between the current application and the other most recent application.

On the other hand, the iOS of the iPhone X is rather a puzzle. The iPhone X requires you to slide up after unlocking and likewise, you have to slide upwards to bring you to the home screen when using an application.

To switch between applications, you need to swipe and wait a second or two to bring up the recent applications. This may seem easy, but it's actually very embarrassing when you start using the phone regularly. I would be happy to swap the drag thing with a proper navigation bar, but again, iOS is king, right? Sigh

Verdict : The EMUI 8.1 of the P20 coupled with Android 8.1 allows for quick navigation between applications and that's the only thing I need to top off the P20 as the winner here.

] I did evaluation tests on both phones and I will let the tests speak here. These are the results.

Huawei P20 Pro reference test -TechJuice

Here is the reference test P20 Pro

  iPhone X

Here is the iPhone X

In these figures, the iPhone X is much better than the P20 Pro. However, benchmark tests are only a rough representation of the performance of a phone and therefore a real conclusion can not be deduced from it. It should be noted that the Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset powering the P20 is not as efficient as the A11 Bionic chip from the iPhone X, so Apple wins the win here.

Verdict : Going through the numbers while considering the fact that the Kirin 970 is just not as good as the bionic chipset A11, the iPhone X l '39 ; wins. After all, the Cupertino giant will not let a simple Android dominate its performance, is not it?

Default Apps

This is probably the most annoying thing about the P20 Pro. There are far too many applications pre-installed on the phone. In addition, the phone continues to install random applications without being prompted to do so. For example, he installed Netflix and Amazon Video on my phone even though I do not use these apps. Applications like Z Camera and TrueCaller are also pre-installed and I have only one question: Why? I am sure that users are able to install applications themselves and they do not need your help.

  iPhone X Homescreen

The home screen of the iPhone X follows a simplistic layout

Apple does not charge its iPhone X with many applications. The few items included can be uninstalled quickly. This is not the case with the P20 because many of these pre-installed applications can not be uninstalled.

Verdict : The iPhone X carries this off. Yay, Apple (?)

Speakers

Whenever I go out with friends and I sit in a cafe etc., I use my phone to clear the stage with music. In this respect, the iPhone X has been my best companion. The stereo speakers of the iPhone X manage to illuminate the situation every time.

The P20 Pro, although not so bad, fails to match the X in this regard. The audibility of the P20's speakers is significantly lower than that of the X's, which is pretty bad, to be honest.

Verdict : If you are an audiophile, the P20 is certainly not for you. The iPhone X takes it one kilometer

Final Verdict

Keeping all the above in mind, I have the impression that the P20 is better than the iPhone X. The net display of the P20 and its fast navigation features overwhelm me and that is very, very rare. While the pure glass back of the iPhone X associated with the company 's acceptance factor is fighting my verdict, I have the impression that the phone falls behind the P20 Pro.

Congratulations, Huawei, you just won my heart! What about yours? Try the P20!
