Another ride was added to the legal battle of Meek Mill.
On Tuesday, Philly.com released a report on unofficial comments made by the lawyer representing Genece Brinkley, the controversial judge presiding over Meek's case. Lawyer A. Charles Peruto Jr. allegedly accused Brinkley of refusing to grant the rapper a new trial and stated that the judge's rigid position made him look "terribly ugly" .
According to the report, Peruto made these statements following camera interview for a documentary about the Philadelphia court system. The lawyer was apparently unaware that the microphone was still on. He later defended himself claiming to have made no derogatory remarks about Brinkley – at least none that was "on the record."
"I was consistent with my this judge's defense, "Peruto said" Tape or no band, I do not believe I said. […] If I say something on the record, it should not be on the transcript.
The publication got audio recording from a "supporter" of Meek. It is also important to note that the aforementioned documentary is a collaborative project between the Amazon and Meek label, Roc Nation.
Meek responded to Peruto's unofficial comments in a post on Instagram. The artist Dreamchasers also claimed that Peruto had visited him during his recent incarceration
Meek's legal team requested a new trial early in the year because of credibility issues with the rapper's arrest agent, Reginald Graham, who was also the Meek's only trial witness in 2008. The District Attorney's Office in Philadelphia placed Graham on a "Do not Show" list due to dishonest conduct and corruption. Brinkley insisted that Graham's past did not have an impact on his decision
"In the end, allegations of misconduct related to Officer Graham do not relate to the facts of the case [Mill’s]"she wrote in a 47-page notice. create a credibility issue for the underlying trial and arrest [Mill’s]. "
