Kingston Police have charged a local man with multiple child pornography offences following an investigation that started at the end of June.

The charges stem from an ongoing project from the Kingston Police’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit. The project is aimed at detecting and monitoring file-sharing networks associated with child pornography.

During their investigations on June 23, investigators found suspected child pornography digital files on a computer with a local IP address connected to one of the networks.

On July 18, investigators received judicial authorization to identify the subscriber of the internet service connected to the computer. The subscriber’s information gave a Kingston address.

On Nov. 2, a search warrant was executed at the subscriber’s residence.

At the residence investigators found numerous digital devices and storage media capable of holding extensive amounts of data. Initial forensic examination revealed evidence in the form video files, and other evidence showing that other files of known child pornography had been possessed by the man at one point.

A 50-year-old man is charged with making child pornography available, possessing child pornography, and accessing child pornography. He was held overnight to attend bail court on Tuesday.

Forensic examination of the accused’s many devices continues.
