The existence and operation of each university is based on the approval and licensing of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Currently, there are 40 federal universities, 46 public universities and 75 private universities in the country as approved by the NUC.
NUC is a federal agency charged by the Nigerian Federal Government with the regulation of university education in Nigeria.
It also acts as a catalyst for positive change and innovation for the provision of quality university education in Nigeria.
