De Lima, one of President Rodrigo's greatest critics Duterte, was arrested at the Philippine National Police Detention Center because of her alleged involvement in drug trafficking while she was still Secretary of Justice.
"Sen. From Lima, we repeat, is not a prisoner of opinion. There is now a case against her before our local court and as far as her right to due process is concerned, all legal processes are proceeding accordingly, "added the Palace.
A warrant for arrest the senator was issued on February 23, 2017 after the court found a probable cause in the charges brought by the Department of Justice.
Authorities served De Lima's arrest warrant at his residence, but the senator was shut up in her Senate office and went to PNP the next day.
