REFLECTIONS TODAY (19659003) JOHN 6: 1-15
Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee. A large crowd followed him, because they saw the signs he was making on the sick. Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. The Jewish holiday of Passover was near. When Jesus looked up and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, he said to Philip, "Where can we buy enough food to eat?" He said that to test it, because he knew for himself what he was going to do. make. Philip answered him: "Two hundred days' wages would not be enough for each one of them to have a little." One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, "There is a boy here . who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what are these things for? Jesus said, "Let the people rest. "There was now a lot of grass here, so the men went to bed, about five thousand in number." Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were lying, and also to the fishes. When they were satisfied, he said to his disciples, "Gather the remaining debris, so that nothing is lost." So they gathered them together and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments of them. Five barley loaves that had been over they could eat. When people saw the sign that he had done, they said, "It's really the Prophet, the one who has to come in the world. "Since Jesus knew that they were coming and taking him to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain alone
REFLECTION
OF FIVE LAYERS AND TWO FISHES. the things we notice about the ministry of Jesus and his followers is the apparent lack of "plan ification "in terms of anticipating the needs of the situations in which they will be. On the other hand, how can they when they are poor missionaries? "Counting only on divine providence" Moreover – and this is the most important reason – Jesus is with them.
The story of the miracle in the Gospel reminds us of a number First, the crowd is hungry for both material and spiritual food, which is why they continue to follow Jesus because they see and know that Jesus has the material and spiritual food to feed them, although perhaps, as Jesus will recall later, many of them are just after the material food.
amid the seeming impossibility of feeding the large crowd "stranded" with them, a boy is "moved" to offer a supply which then becomes the springboard for the miraculous intervention of Jesus. His contribution is very insignificant compared to the mouths that must be fed ("just a drop in the ocean" as St Teresa of Calcutta says). But, in the eyes of faith, it's like lighting a candle instead of cursing the darkness. At least, it gives hope in the midst of total despair
Which brings us to the third point: God transforms the little that people have in abundance while the little one passes into the hands of Jesus who takes it, Bless it and breeze it for distribution to people who are now sitting on the floor. As God did not allow the Israelites to starve in the wilderness, so now, through his Son, God saves the hungry crowd from death and nourishes it beyond their needs.
In our work and ministry, may we learn to trust in the power of Jesus to come to our aid; after all, he is not "Jesus" ("The Lord saves") for nothing. We can not have much, but we will not miss it; in fact, he will surely surprise us with abundance.
