Music Nile Rodgers elected Chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame

N EW YORK (AP) – Musician, Producer and Composer Nile Rodgers Has a New Role as Chair of the Songwriters Hall of Fame .

Monday, unanimously, he elected the guitarist of 65 years.

Rodgers will serve a three-year term, succeeding co-chairs Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, known as Gamble & Huff. In a statement, Rodgers says he will try to serve "with all my heart".

Hall of Fame President Linda Moran says that Rodgers' eloquence in speaking of writing and its process make him the ideal voice for the community. The room says it celebrates songwriters and educates the public about their accomplishments.

Rodgers co-founded the Chic band, known for such songs as "The Freak" and "Good Times."

He worked as a producer or performer with Diana Ross, David Bowie, Madonna and Sam Smith
