New Meteor Garden not on Netflix PH, fans share their disappointment online

To say that the Filipinos were excited about the remake Meteor Garden when it was first announced would be a euphemism. So, when Netflix announced Tuesday that the series would be available on the streaming platform, many counted the days up to the world premiere of July 13th.

Except that this day has never come, at least not for fans based in the Philippines. During the weekend, fans noticed that the result did not appear in Netflix's search results and, unfortunately, a Rappler report confirmed that Meteor Garden is not not available locally because ABS-CBN has rights

ABS-CBN posted a teaser for the show Friday but did not specify when it would be premiere.

The idea of having to wait to see the show did not go well with some fans who naturally took on social media to express their disappointment. They are still posting about it today.

"Meteor Garden 2018 is on netflix but not in the Philippines How is that right?" The Twitter user @heleryyyrose said.

@bochsamaniego wanted an answer to his burning question. "Why is Meteor Garden not available on Netflix Philippines? Why?", He wrote and tagged Netflix's tech support account.

All that @ever_army could do was be sarcastic. "Good news: the meteor garden is available on netflix … Bad news: not just in the Philippines," she says.

@iamjordiaashley was so disappointed that she even used swear words. "Meteor Garden is available on Netflix but f * ck except in the Philippines, why?", She said in Filipino.

Some were not happy either that the ABS-CBN got rights to the show.

"Meteor Garden is not available in Netflix Philippines because ABS-CBN holds the right to broadcast the show.Fudge," says @itsmariantb with an emoji group including broken hearts, angry faces and skulls.

This backlash may seem too intense for a TV show but is not surprising given the popularity of the Meteor Garden in the Philippines. It was created on ABS-CBN in 2003 and quickly gained popularity, becoming a national phenomenon.

While he was popular throughout Asia, he was particularly tall in the Philippines.

Twitter @zhu_magnet illustrated it in two tweets

"[O] one of the most shocking things I've ever heard, is that this garden of Meteor was not a phenomenon as important in other countries as in the Philippines. "
