P66M in contraband goods seized at Manila Port

MORE THAN P66 million contraband goods were intercepted by agents of the Customs Office at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) on Thursday.

Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapena said that shipments were seized for misrepresentation and the lack of required import permits, which includes, among other things, used clothing or "ukay-ukay" and beauty products.

Two of the seven containers belong to Skadi Trading. They contain cosmetic products imported from South Korea and do not carry the Product Registration Certificate of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA).

Cosmetics are estimated at 50 million pesos.

On June 21, another cargo belonging to Hepomlan Trading was seized after the customs authorities discovered undeclared boxes of fake G-shock watches. It was estimated at $ 2.25 million

The remaining three containers were shipped to the EPAD Freight Fowarders.

Shipments came from China. They were entered by the informal entry division and were found to contain ukay-ukay and used shoes.
