The Philippine Center for
Islam and Democracy, a Muslim think tank based at the University of
Philippines, urges the Commission on Human Rights, the
Secretary of State for National Defense and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces
to form a committee that would examine the deaths of seven young people
men in Sulu and recent bombings in several areas of Mindanao.
PCID also calls for
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will review the current implementation
of martial law in Mindanao and investigate reported human rights
violations not only in Sulu but in other parts of Mindanao.
Rasul says that the government and
Stakeholders should act proactively now and establish a
plan that attacks violent extremism taking into account the potential
problems with the application of martial law.
The information indicates that
ISIS intends to form a large group consisting of the remains of La Maute
Group and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), a
dissident group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) during
taking advantage of situations like Sulu's murders.
PCID offers a
gathering of stakeholders with the AFP-SND, in order to create a plan that
aims to further improve the coordination and relationships of assigned members
the troops of the region and those of the religious and
communities.
The results show that most
deaths in Mindanao are caused by several factors, among which the
lack of coordination by the army with community leaders,
poor communication or lack of information on the part of AFP units operating in
The area.
Last Saturday, AFP
reported the death of seven young men in Sulu. Based on reports,
AFP described these adolescents as "terrorists" who oppose
with testimonials from members of the community. Information collected
show that the youth were evacuees from a community of Patikul
who fled the area because of an intense military operation against Abu
