Suzuki PH introduces the all-new Jimny at this year's PIMS
Can not wait to see the all-new Suzuki Jimny in the Philippines? Well, Suzuki gives everyone a chance to see it up close at the 2018 International Motor Show of the Philippines (PIMS). Yes, you read that right, the new generation Jimny is here in the country.
Suzuki Philippines is organizing a special preview of the mini 4×4 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. Revealed for the first time in July, Suzuki's small SUV features a revolutionary new boxy SUV design, as well as new technologies and a new 1.5-liter engine.
Although it's all new, the Jimny retains his signature profile in his latest iteration. Its retro-modern design combines the styling elements of the old Jimny models. It has round headlights at the front and is accompanied by a black five-slat grill that gives it a sturdy and macho look. The rear is equipped with horizontal tail lights mounted at the height of the bumper and a separate luggage rack at the rear.
Just like on the outside, the interior is also a mix of old and new design elements. Inspired by the all-new Swift, the Jimny comes with hooded gauges, a digital temperature controller (on latest-generation models) and a touch-screen infotainment system. The old school handle on the dashboard is a reminder of Jimnys of yesteryear. There is also an extra faux metal and gloss black trim that gives off a certain Jimny feel.
The Jimny will come with a new 1.5 liter line called the K15B. It replaces the old 1.3-liter M13A and develops 102 hp at 6000 rpm as well as a torque of 130 Nm. The power is then transmitted to a five-speed manual gearbox or to a four-speed automatic transmission. Like its predecessors, 4WD comes standard with a low-end transfer case for better traction off the beaten path.
The all-new Suzuki Jimny will arrive officially in the country in the second quarter of 2019 and will be available in 3 variants: a base with a manual gearbox, a medium-quality automatic and a high-level automatic.
But what surprised us is that the price of the 2019 Jimny which, according to Shuzo Hoshikura, director of Suzuki Philippines, will start at 1.1 million pesos.
Jimny Automatic, the latest specification, has a cost of 965,000 Php.
