Toyota gives a glimpse of future mobility with the TJ Cruiser concept
What do you get when you combine SUVs and functionality with a vanity? The Toyota TJ Cruiser. After its initial debut at the Tokyo Motor Show last year, the crossover-van hybrid has officially made its debut at the 2018 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).
The TJ Cruiser is a vehicle that is a vehicle of choice and a vehicle for the design of an SUV. From its namesake, the 'T' stands for toolbox from which the concept takes its inspiration from. Meanwhile, 'J' means joy which describes the feeling of discovering new places.
The concept combines cutting-edge design and blends both crossover and SUV looks into one. A massive grill, along with large circular headlights give the concept a distinct front fascia. The hood, fenders and roof are also scratch-and-dirt-resistant which add to the concept's ruggedness. Finally, it gets huge 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in chunky tires.
Size-wise, the TJ Cruiser measures 4300mm long, 1775mm wide and 1620mm tall. It also has a generous 2750mm wheelbase that gives the concept its roomy cabin.
Speaking of its cabin, serving the concept's centerpiece is its spacious interior. While it can only be used in total, all of the seats can be folded including the front passenger's. This can be done easily inside the TJ Cruiser. It even comes with tie-down points with which you can secure loose cargo.
Complementing the concept's roomy interior are the sliding doors and tailgate that have large openings. This allows for easier storing and removal of cargo, as well as for better ingress / egress from the vehicle itself.
Under the hood, a 2.0-liter hybrid powertrain provides the necessary propulsion for the TJ Cruiser. Exact output figures, however, were not revealed by the automaker. Underpinning the concept is Toyota's TNGA platform which is currently used in some Toyota's latest products like the Prius and CH-R. In addition, derivatives of the platform are also found on Lexus models such as the new LS and ES.
Check out the TJ Cruiser, as well as Toyota's other vehicles at the 2018 Philippine International Motor Show from October 24-28 at the World Trade Center.
