MANILA, Philippines – Police have killed 21 drug suspects during the "Four Day Celebration in Undas" from October 31 to November 3, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Executive Oscar Albayalde said in a statement. A press conference held on Monday, November 5th.

The murders took place while the PNP had conducted 616 anti-drug operations in total. They also arrested 981 people alleged to have owned or carried out a transaction involving illicit drugs.

The PNP has yet to disclose the number of deaths, but all are already considered identical by the cops: the suspects fought back (nanlaban) and the cops had to retaliate in the exercise of their duties.

This new count adds to the nearly 5,000 government-listed drug suspects who have been beaten and who have died in the fight against narcotics since President Rodrigo Duterte took office. Human rights groups have counted more than 20,000 people, including murders that may have been inspired by the president's so-called "war on drugs".

Assistance during the holidays. For consecutive commemorative holidays when Filipinos gathered in cemeteries, the PNP set up approximately 4,400 assistance centers with nearly 23,000 police officers.

In and near the burial grounds, the police confiscated 4 firearms, 28,595 bladed weapons, 615 play props, 195 karaoke machines and various alcoholic beverages of 17,659 violators of local laws and ordinances. .

Albayalde commended the ground commanders for the anti-drug and security operations conducted during the holidays. The senior policeman added that it was only the "empty run" for a larger leave: Christmas.

"In the same whole-of-government framework of law enforcement and public safety, we are turning our attention to the holiday season and we are preparing as soon as possible to optimize the effectiveness of the planned actions", said Albayalde. – Rappler.com
