Puyat emphasized that it is a way of supporting Filipino businesses and artisans who were behind the different Duty Free local merchandises.

“Let us not forget to take advantage of the holiday season as an opportunity for us to promote local. After all, we must utilize Duty Free to introduce one of a kind up and coming Filipino products that highlight Filipino ingenuity, creativity and artistry,” said Puyat during the Duty Free- Luxe Christmas Tree Lighting event on Monday.

Puyat said the Duty Free Philippines must “bear in mind” that its role is not only limited to being just a retail outlet but “also an agent to spread and share happiness” to its customers.

“Duty Free Philippines has been part of the Christmas celebrations of the families of overseas Filipinos who see to it that they are at home for the holidays. It has become customary for returning residents to pass by our stores, to buy something that they can give to their loved ones as gifts… as ‘pasalubongs,’” said the tourism chief.

“As for those who leave the country during the holidays, the Duty Free offers goods that travelers may bring back to their home countries as souvenirs or as presents, to those they have left behind or intend to meet in their respective destinations, or when they come home,” she added.
