Railway News: Trends in the Railway Industry
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) solicits public and stakeholder views on an update of its state rail plan.
ADOT is seeking comments by August 10th. The plan should include both rail freight and passenger rail systems, ministry officials said in a press release.
The update will provide guidance for existing rail systems and services used by freight forwarders and the public. In addition, it will provide an assessment of the state rail system, providing recommendations for policies, programs, processes and projects that will improve rail safety and service.
The following five major elements will be included in the plan:
Describe the role of rail transportation in the state
• Establish a profile of railroad resources and railroad traffic of the state, identify markets, logistics and economic and demographic trends that will affect rail transportation needs; rail needs and improvements;
• identify needs and improvements for rail passengers; and
• Development of a Rail Service Plan
Last year, several rail industry workshops were held to gather feedback on the challenges and opportunities of the rail network. Arizona Railway. Comments from these meetings will be included in the state rail plan, which should be completed by the end of the year
