Major General Arnel dela Vega, commander of West Mindanao Command, said the GSS men had been arrested during the operation in Barangay Maligay, in the town of Patikul, this weekend.

He identified them as Gafur Albani Absari, Medzfar Mangabong and Madjid Mangabong. They were handed over to the 501st Brigade.

The army tried to paralyze GSS operations in Sulu and Basilan, with the aim of solving the problem of Abu Sayyaf before the end of President Duterte's term.

But recently, he reportedly raised money with the release of a kidnapping victim who had been kidnapped in Zamboanga del Sur in August of this year.

ASG has been identified as responsible for the series of kidnappings of the past, involving both locals and strangers, whom they would seize up in Malaysia.

He also gained notoriety for beheading the kidnapping victims whose family would not pay the ransom demand.
