SOUTHEND Pride begins this Saturday with a whole series of events that will take place all week, the main message being "everyone is welcome".

Dan Turpin, president of Southend Pride, explains that this is the first time the festival will be held locally in 15 years!

He returns as part of the Southend Festival presented by the Southend BID, who has won a number of events established under his umbrella name in an effort to raise the profile of the city and "put it on the cultural map ".

Dan said, "We have a great positive and diverse community in our city and we want Southend Pride to be inclusive and positive, no matter what your sexuality – no matter – everyone is welcome!

"We are really excited that we have a whole week of brilliant events and acts, we are focusing on local artists, but we are also delighted to say that special guests from the world are here. Outside come to the parade, even though I do not have the right to say who they are still.

"There have been negative reports about the events that took place at London Pride, about the extremist groups that targeted the event, Southend could be a target, but we hope not! And show That's not what Southend means! Southend is open to all and concerns inclusion at all levels! Everyone is welcome to Southend!

The week will include poetry, film, festive evenings and many others, culminating in a parade and festival to be held on Saturday, July 21 in Southend and will end at Warrior Square.

All Southend Pride events are free, but a donation basket will be distributed for the Southend Pride 2019 collection.

Our secret weapon for #TeamKing is the sensational Don One. Don One of Bir-ming-ham will lead you through a collection of hymns that you will not be able to stop singing. Finished with some funny one-liners for a lot of laughs and a show-stop performance that you will not forget!

After starting to slide a little over a year ago, she is already a force to be reckoned with, performing concerts around Essex, Kent and London. It can often be found by usurping the identity of your favorite characters and TV cartoons or by spicing up the way of a live cabaret.
