Suburbs returning after "Undas" could pay higher rates – head of the LTFRB

It is possible that passengers returning to Metro Manila after All Saints 'Day and All Saints' Day will pay higher bus fares than their previous trip.

Unless an interim order is imposed by a court, the additional $ 0.15 per kilometer for all provincial buses, approved by the Land Transportation Regulatory and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), will come into effect on November 3, a day after the day of all souls.

This means that commuters who book a trip on or before November 2 may pay a different rate one day after.

During a Monday inspection of the bus terminals, the chairman of the LTFRB, Martin Delgra III, said that the agency had already asked the bus companies to post copies of the new tariff matrix in the buses even before the date of implementation.

"The bus operators will have to secure the tariff matrix of the LTFRB para mailagay doon (in order to be able to display it in their buses)," he said at a briefing at the Cubao bus terminal.

According to Delgra, the rate matrix should be made available to the public in order to avoid any shock in relation to the new rates.

"(The fee schedule should be) prominently, not only for drivers and bus drivers, but especially for buses," he added.

(The fare matrix should be prominently displayed on buses, not only for drivers and bus drivers, but especially for passengers so that they are informed of the new fares.)

City buses were also given the green light to increase their basic P1 fare, raising the minimum fare from P10 to P11 for ordinary buses, and from P12 to P13 for air-conditioned buses.

The LTFRB acceded to the request of the transport groups to increase the jeepney trip rate, although at the scheduled time of P10 – P2, lower than their initial request.

Despite commuters' fears, Delgra had earlier assured the public that the rate adjustments would have little impact on the inflation rate, which peaked at 6.7% in September. / ee
