Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 14) – About 80% of Filipinos are not satisfied with the way the administration handles the territorial dispute with China in the South China Sea, reported an independent institute
Weather Stations (SWS) conducted a survey from 27 to 30 June through individual interviews with 1,200 adults, including 300 from Luzon, Visayas, Mindnao and Metro Manila. They were asked several questions about the South China Sea issue. This was before the anniversary of the 2016 Hague decision.
A large majority of Filipinos, or 81%, said that it was not appropriate for the Philippines to do nothing against China's intrusion into the disputed territories.
Meanwhile, 80% of Filipinos are to strengthen the military capabilities of the Philippines.
About 74% of Filipinos are for raising the issue of territorial dispute before international organizations like the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for diplomatic relations .
73 percent are for direct bilateral negotiations between the Philippines and China, showing that Filipinos believe that these two diplomatic choices do not exclude each other.
64 percent of Filipinos are seeking a third nation to facilitate negotiations between the Philippines and China.
Increased mistrust in China
The June 2018 survey showed more people wary of China, as the rating of confidence fell to -35 points, a " bad grade.
This is a decrease of 42 points from the last poll of a "neutral" point of 7 points in March 2018 since the -37 points reported in April 2016. [19659002] China's confidence rating was poor, regardless of the satisfaction of respondents to the survey with President Rodrigo Duterte. Mistrust in China was highest among those who were dissatisfied with Duterte at -42 points, followed by those who were undecided about the president at -39 points.
Satisfied pollsters of President Duterte continue to be wary of China.
A majority of Filipinos, at 81%, were aware of the dispute over the South China Sea prior to the survey, while 52% of Filipinos say that they have excellent to adequate knowledge about the question.
SWS surveys have a margin of error of ± 3% for national percentages and ± 6% for Metro Manila, Libra Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao
