SWS: More pinoys consider themselves poor

. According to a survey of weather stations (SWS), self-reported poverty among Filipino families worsened in the second quarter due to rising consumer prices that pushed up inflation to its highest level in five years in June

The survey, conducted from June 27 to 30, also shows that more Filipinos consider themselves poor, people who believe that they eat the meals of the poor.

The number increased by 34 percent, or about 7.8 million Filipino families, up five points from 29 percent, or 6.7 million families in March.

Those who estimated poor in terms of food increased in Mindanao (from 31% to 45%), Metro Manila (18% to 23%) and Balance Luzon (24% to 26%) was unchanged in the Visayas to 45% [19659002] The survey used face-to-face interviews with 1,200 respondents and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points

Thresholds

Threshold of self-assessed median poverty, which is the monthly budget that a poor household needs for their household expenses so they do not consider themselves poor in generally, is 15,000 pesos; while the self-reported poverty gap, the monthly expenditure of poor families in relation to the threshold, is 6,000.

The self-assessed food poverty line, which is the monthly food budget of the poor households need not to consider their poor food, is P6,000; while the self-reported food poverty gap, the monthly expenditure amount of food-poor families compared to their state threshold, is P3,000.
