This year, Team 38 will line up a new bike
Team Privateer 38 has experienced a comeback by entering a Kawasaki Ninja H2R in the Bonneville Speed Week 2016. Although Japanese buddies did not break any records in their class, they gained a lot of knowledge that will certainly help them on their second visit. For the 2018 Speed Week, which runs from August 11 to 18, Team 38 will return to the Bonneville Salt Flats. This time, guys will line up the H2 Ninja to create a new record for a new class instead of trying to break an existing one.
The 38 team is made up of Kawasaki employees, race engineers and bikers. The gang formed a private racing team in 1975 and called the 38 team after its workplace, building number 38: Department of Experimental Technology, Department of Experimental Engineering, and the Department. Akashi Works factory testing of Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The driver of the 38 team is Shigeru Yamashita – 48-year-old Kawasaki test driver since 1989, 8-hour Suzuki driver and unicycle enthusiast.
In 2016, the 38th team was risky at Week Record with the designated Ninja H2R track. It was entered in the class 1000-MPS-BF (1000cc – Partial Rationalization – supercharged / turbocharged engine with blown fuel). Unfortunately, the Japanese team drove at 220 mph and failed to overturn Al Lamb of Dallas Honda, who averaged 240.292 mph in 2012 with a turbocharged 2008 CBR1000RR.
Team 38 will join the Bonneville Speed Week 2018 with the legally permitted Ninja H2. Shigeru Yamashita will return as the team's pilot to pilot the H2 Ninja and, hopefully, show once again some of his unique antics. No details have been published regarding modifications and mapping of the ECU motorcycle. The 38 team chooses to create an entirely new record rather than going beyond an existing record. As can be seen from the markings of the bike, the Team 38 Ninja H2 (stock Ninja H2 shown above) will create a new record for the 1000P-PB (1000cc – Production – Production Supercharged Engine) category, for which there is currently no official record. ]
