The Aston Martin Vantage will get a manual, maybe soon: Report

The Aston Martin Vantage 2019 could be equipped with a manual transmission, which would make it the first car powered by the AMG V-8 four-cylinder 4.0-liter.

A Vantage test mule was spotted by Coach with the car's optional quad exhausts, thought to be a test bench for the manual variant of the Vantage, and have speculated to be a 2019 model year vehicle. This would be consistent with statements made by Aston Martin CEO and President, Andy Palmer, in early 2017, when he said that Aston Martin vehicles would still be available with manual transmissions. More recently, we have received confirmation that the Vantage will be sold in the US with a seven-speed manual, perhaps the one that will be available on the V-12 Vantage AMR.

The AMG V-8 used by the Vantage was designed for coupling with automatic and semi-automatic dual clutch and torque converter transmissions, with this preference being cooked in the engine control module, so converting the Vantage into a skate car will not be as simple as the 4.0 crankshaft clutch. A major computer reprogramming will be necessary to prevent the engine from jumping in the optimum speed as is necessary with modern automatic transmissions with fast gearshift, although an automatic readjustment function is relatively easy to transfer in manual cars (preferably with a rocker)

No AMG motor vehicle was available with manual transmissions since before 2010.

The Drive contacted Aston Martin to find out if the 2019 Vantage would be available in manual, and we will update when we have received an answer.
