Renault has raised the bar with a Trophy version of its latest Megane RS, which features more power than the standard car, a new exhaust system, improved brakes and a few changes from very subtle design.
The 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine of the regular car now develops 296 horsepower and up to 420 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission with shift paddles. The torque for the manual car is slightly down on the auto, developing 20Nm less at 400Nm.

Renault claims that the extra power goes through a revised turbocharger system and a new exhaust. The ball bearings attached to the turbine are now ceramic, with lighter weight and reduced friction allowing the turbo to thread faster.
The new exhaust system also improves power, while being equipped with a mechanical valve exhaust note to be modified.
With the additional grunt on board, Renault claims 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds, while the maximum speed is up to 162 mph. It's a tenth fastest at 62 mph from the stop, and 7 mph faster than the base car.
The Mégane R.S Trophy uses the Cup chassis as standard. Compared to the regular chassis, it has 25% more firm dampers, 30% tighter springs and 10% more stiff anti-roll bars, while the mechanical limited slip differential is equipped on the front axle.
The RS Trophy is new brakes at the front, provided by Brembo. The discs measure 355 mm, while Renault claims that they are 1.8 kg lighter than standard brakes. They are lodged behind new exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels, while a lighter wheel – saving 2 kg each turn – will be available in 2019.
Like the usual Megane RS, the Trophy comes with 4CONTROL four-wheel steering. It works like any other four-wheel steering configuration, turning the front and rear axles in opposite directions in slow, tight corners for increased agility, while turning both axles in the same high-speed direction to assist stability.
To watch, you will have trouble choosing the trophy for the regular car. The only giveaway design changes are the unique alloy wheels, plus a Trophy graphic added to the front spoiler of the chin. Inside, buyers will be able to speculate on the new Recaro sports seats, trimmed with Alcantara.
The new Mégane R.S Trophy will go on sale this fall, with Renault stating that customers will start receiving their cars in the winter. Prices in the UK are expected to approach £ 30,000.
