As for the sports binoculars Toyota 86 (formerly Scion FR-S) and Subaru BRZ, Subaru seems to have all the pleasure. First, the BRZ received a performance pack with Sachs shock absorbers and Brembo brakes, and then the limited edition tS model. But Toyota is catching up with the 2019 2019 Special Edition TRD (Toyota Racing Development), a limited-edition model that adds useful performance improvements.
These upgrades are almost a true copy of what you get with the BRZ performance package, but that's not a bad thing. Like the Subaru, the TRD Special Edition receives the Sachs and Brembo dampers. It also rolls on 18-inch wheels (instead of the standard 17-inch), shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. It's a key change because the 86 standard makes it through Michelin Primacy HP tires designed for low rolling resistance, no adhesion. They were meant to give the 86 a more playful behavior, but serious drivers will probably appreciate the increased grip of Pilot Sports.
The Special Edition also receives a TRD body kit, including a new front bumper, rocker panels, a rear bumper, and spoiler. The only available color is Raven (black), with TRD's red-orange-yellow race strips adding a bit of color. While Toyota rarely applies the name to production cars, TRD has been around since 1979, and has been involved in all kinds of racing, from Baja 1000 to NASCAR. The interior gets a little red trim and more legends TRD.
What the special edition 86 does not get, it 's more power. The boxer-four 2.0-liter car remains anchored at 205 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque if you opt for the six-speed manual transmission, or 200 hp and 151 lb-ft with the automatic at six speeds. The 86 still does not tear the acceleration, but its rear-wheel drive chassis offers excellent maneuverability and a solid foundation for tuning.
The Toyota 86 TRD Special Edition 2019 will be on sale in August. Toyota will sell only 1,418, at a price of $ 33,340 each (including the mandatory $ 920 destination fee). This is a price lower than the $ 34,355 price of the Subaru BRZ tS limited edition, limited to 500 units. But if exclusivity is not important, a non-tS BRZ with performance package offers similar mechanical upgrades for $ 30,500.
