Limited Project Gold Porsche 911 sold for an eye-watering USD 3.1 million
You may recall earlier this year Porsche created a one-off brand new version of their last air-cooled 911. Dubbed ‘Project Gold’, the completely new 993 Turbo S was made from a body-in-white chassis that was sitting in the archives of Stuttgart.
Spearheaded by Porsche Classic, this project coincides with Porsche’s 70th anniversary and will eventually be sold off to the highest bidder – and boy was that bid high.
Crossing the gavel within ten minutes and 37 bids, Project Gold sold at a staggering Php 165 million ($3.1 M) at RM Sotheby’s The Porsche 70th Anniversary Auction 2018. To give an idea of just how sizeable that sum is a fairly decent 993 Turbo S changes hands at around Php 16 million ($300k USD) these days – only but a tenth of Project Gold’s final selling price.
Proceeds for the brand new 993 Turbo S will all go towards the Ferry Porsche foundation, a non-profit organization created as part of Porsche’s 70th anniversary which focuses on homes near Porsche’s Stuttgart and Leipzig factories. The foundation supports work in the fields of education, research, sport, culture and social affairs.
Considering that Project Gold was likely sold to a private collector, this may well be the last time it sees the light of day as it enters a private gallery. Hopefully we can still catch the vehicle attending Porsche events in the near future.
