MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in the Philippines Sunday afternoon, October 28, for a series of meetings in the home town of President Rodrigo Duterte, Davao City.
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) announced that Mr. Wang arrived in Davao Sunday at 14:45.
In its update sent to reporters around 4 pm, the FDFA said that Wang was greeted by Philippine Deputy Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo at Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago "Chito" Santa Romana, and Davao Deputy Mayor Bernard Al-ag.
Wang arrived in the Philippines while Manila and Beijing were trying to seal an environment conducive to joint exploration of the Western Philippines Sea. The Western Philippines Sea is part of the South China Sea, which belongs to the Philippines and is based on an international decision, but is claimed by China.
