Philips Hue gets Edison style bulbs, a smart plug, etc.

Many Philips Hue bulbs and accessories are announced today, and by far the most notable are the first Edison style bulbs. These smart LED bulbs seem to have a swirling filament exposed inside their clear glass case, creating a much more stylish look than a traditional, almost industrial, Hue bulb.

When Edison style bulbs are off, it is clear that they are filled with lights and not the real deal. But when they are lit and bright, they have the same vibe as the real thing, and I think they would work perfectly well with the room accent they are supposed to be. They are also very bright.

The Edison style bulbs will be available in the traditional form of the A19 bulb priced at $ 25, the ST19 tubes at $ 28 and the G25 globes priced at $ 33, launched in the United States in October. Because they mimic the style of old bulbs, they will be locked in the hot and orange color temperature and will not be adjustable like other Hue bulbs.

A new pair of accessories also arrives on the Hue line. This includes the first intelligent connector in the line, which can cut off power to anything connected. Obviously, it is intended to be used with a lamp, although the Hue app also includes icons for other products, such as a fan. It will sell for $ 40, which is expensive for smart cards, which you can find at many manufacturers at this stage.

The Hue line also receives a new controller, the Hue Smart Button. It's a small and probably easy-to-lose button that you are supposed to climb up somewhere quietly to control your lights. So you can put the button on a bedside table and then press it to turn off the lighting in your bedroom once you're in bed. The button can be used to dim the light by holding down the key. Plus, it can be set to automatically adjust the temperature of your lights according to the time. It will sell for $ 20.

Signify, the company behind Philips Hue, is also updating the Hue Go portable lamp today for the first time since its release in 2015. I do not know if this series of Hue product launches has been a unifying theme, but they continue to make Signify the space leader, pushing new bulb styles and finding new ways to make smart connected lighting and easy to use.
