Phillies make roster decisions today

Today was kind of a deadline with the Phillies and their current squad. They wanted to go to Philadelphia with no questions on the list. Having already set up the survey pen (more or less), they finally settled into the central field position and made some alignment moves. After much dismay and discussion, the team released their moves.

Adam Haseley and Roman Quinn won the center-field position, sending Odubel Herrera to the alternate site to prepare for the minor league season. It has been a heated battle this spring with five contenders for the job if you want to count Scott Kingery and Travis Jankowski. Then Haseley was injured and everything was thrown into chaos. Kingery never knocked, so he died pretty quickly. Herrera hit well at the start, but fell back at the end. Once Haseley came back and continued to punch well, it seemed to be inevitable. Looking at the final tally for the players, the choice seemed obvious.

With that and yesterday’s decisions on Kingery and Jojo Romero, the final roster is almost ready. The offense, at least, seems over.

Pitch rotation, as reported by manager Joe Girardi, is also set.

SP4 – Matt Moore
SP5 – Chase Anderson

The bullpen is where we are still looking at some possibilities. Although Girardi hasn’t said anything yet, it is starting to look like this:

Hector Neris, Archie Bradley, Jose Alvarado, Conner Brogdon, Vince Velasquez, David Hale, Sam Coonrod, Brandon Kintzler

That gives us a full roster of 26 players, a team we can hope to get the outs of and score the points to to keep up with the behemoths at the top of the division.
