Phoebe Waller-Bridge quit Amazon reboot Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which she was to play as Donald Glover, Deadline can confirm.
The move is believed to have been made due to creative differences.
The series is currently being written ahead of next year’s production. Amazon will now begin to remake the female role, with Glover still attached to the star as well as in her roles as co-creator and executive producer. Francesca Sloane is the co-creator and showrunner of the series.
The project is a reboot of Doug Liman’s 2005 action comedy of the same name, which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The film follows a bored married couple who are surprised to learn that they are both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other.
Glover and Waller-Bridge both have global deals on Amazon. The streamer did not immediately respond to a request for comment. THR first broke the news.
