I hope you overcame the disappointment to learn that the phone that was in Terry Gou 's hands, Foxconn' s CEO, was not Apple 's iPhone 11. But today, it 's a brand new day with a new leak related to some models of Apple' s 2019 iPhone. A member of Weibo posted today (via SlashLeaks) a pair of images that would show molds that will be used to make third party cases for the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Max.

Based on the diagrams disclosed, the molds show the square camera housing at the back of the two models where three cameras will reside. The three sensors are expected to include a 14 MP main camera, a 10 MP camera with a telephoto lens, and a flight time sensor (ToF). A ToF sensor measures the time it takes for infrared light to bounce off the subject and return to the phone. This data is used to provide accurate depth information and could allow Apple to offer a rear-facing face ID and more Augmented Reality (AR) features.

What we do not see in the molds is whether Apple decided to offer USB Type-C charging for the 2019 iPhones. Last month, Kuo announced that Apple would remain with its Wear Lightning for at least a year. What we could find on the new models instead of a new charge port is what is called underwater mode. Apple has already patented this feature, which will allow a user to navigate the phone with his fingers and take pictures even when the device is under water. But the patent really covered something very important related to the submarine mode; using an ambient light sensor to measure the amount of light under water and circuits designed to measure the depth of the image sensor, an iPhone in submarine mode can optionally automatically adjust the Color balance of photos taken when the user and the phone are both submerged. Without this possibility, the photos taken under the water could be dark and dark.

The three new iPhone models should continue to follow the tradition and be unveiled next September. Apple's recent agreement with chip maker Qualcomm gives the company a multi-year supply of 5G modem chips, but it's too late for Apple to offer an iPhone 5G this year. Next year, we could witness a total redesign of Apple smartphones. In addition to its new look, Apple should offer at least a 5G handset and possibly a foldable iPhone. A patent released earlier this year shows the technology imagined by Apple to protect a foldable screen against cold and fragility. In winter, low temperatures can make a flexible screen more vulnerable to damage. Apple's solution is to heat portions of the screen to keep it malleable when it's cold outside. Apple may be the last of the major phone manufacturers to offer a foldable model.
