Piers Morgan leaves the UK morning show after comments from Meghan and Prince Harry

British TV personality Piers Morgan is leaving “Good Morning Britain” following comments he made about Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, ITV reported on Tuesday. Morgan has been a constant criticism of the couple, sparking negative reactions from viewers and an investigation by a media watchdog.

“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided it is now time to leave Good Morning Britain,” the broadcaster said in a statement. “ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing more to add.”

Prince Harry and Meghan shocked millions on Sunday in an interview with Oprah, revealing that relentless pressure from the British tabloids and the royal family had led Meghan to consider suicide. She also said there were discussions about “the color of their baby’s skin”. The royal family called the allegations “concerningBut said the issues would be handled by the family in private.

Morgan, however, appeared on “Good Morning Britain” on Monday, calling Meghan’s comments a lie. “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she says,” he said. “I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report.”

Morgan viewers and co-hosts condemned his actions. As Morgan clarified his remarks the next morning, saying he believed suicide and mental health were important issues for professionals to deal with, he then left the studio after colleague Alex Beresford called his treatment Meghan of “devilish”.

“I understand you don’t like Meghan Markle,” Beresford said. “You have said it so clearly many times in this program. A number of times. And I understand that you have a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or have had one and she cut you off. She has the right to interrupt you. if she wants it. Has she said anything about you since she interrupted you? I don’t think she did, but yet you keep ransacking her. ”

Morgan then left the set of the series.

Later Tuesday, Morgan tweeted about leaving the show. “Thinking of my late, great manager John Ferriter tonight,” he wrote. “He would have told me to do the exact same thing. @GMB #TrustYourGut”

On Tuesday, the UK Communications Office announced it would be investigate Morgan’s comments under the “Injury and Violation Rules” after receiving more than 40,000 formal complaints about his comments.
