Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny free on Epic next week

As if we don’t already have several massive new games to go through this month, next week we’ll be getting a bunch of RPGs as well. Epic Games has revealed that its free games for the week starting December 10 are two big Obsidian romps, Pillars Of Eternity – Definitive Edition and Tyranny – Gold Edition.

As it turns out, they’re free on the same day Cyberpunk 2077 launches. So, are you going for a futuristic new RPG that’s going to set you back over £ 50? Or two very good known fantastic RPGs that are totally free?

Look, I know you’re probably going to buy Cyberpunk anyway, but Pillars and Tyranny are great and free, so you might as well add them to your library.

Pillars Of Eternity is a great isometric fantasy game, which we believe is one of the best RPGs on PC. In John Walker’s 2015 review Pillars Of Eternity, it seems he might have enjoyed it.

“It’s a triumph,” he wrote. “A marvelous, huge and spellbinding RPG, beautifully created in the image of BioWare’s Infinity classics, but distinctly its own. A classic in every way.

The Definitive Edition comes with the game’s expansions, The White March: Parts 1 and 2, which add more story content and companions to drag along on your adventures.

Tyranny is, surprise surprise, another isometric fantasy RPG, but this one puts a heavy emphasis on player choice. The Gold Edition includes two story DLCs, Tales From The Tiers and Bastard’s Wound, as well as a portrait pack (so you can choose the best image that represents your character) and an upgrade pack that gives you ringtones (among others). Unbelievable.

John was also a fan of Tyranny in his 2016 review. He liked Pillars more, however: “If it didn’t sound like the splendid Pillars Of Eternity so well, if those expectations didn’t weigh on it, maybe there would be more. clemency. But as is, it’s a pretty decent RPG.

You can pick them up for free next week, December 10, from the Epic Games Store.

If you’re looking for a giveaway right now, however, Epic’s offering this week is the excellent 2D platformer, Cave Story.
