An American Airlines pilot was dragged on a Kentucky plane and arrested this weekend for the triple homicide committed in 2015 on three of his former neighbors, officials said.

Former US Army commander Christian Richard Martin, 51, was arrested Friday at the Louisville International Airport on a plane loaded with passengers preparing to take off for Charlotte, reported ABC News. .

The arrest took place a day after his impeachment by a grand jury of Christian County on murder and arson charges stemming from the murders of Calvin and Pamela Phillips in November 2015 and their neighbor , Edward Dansereau.

Police said that 59-year-old Calvin Phillips was shot dead in his cellar in Pembroke, Kentucky. The bodies of 58-year-old Pamela Phillips and 63-year-old Dansereau were found in her burned car a few miles away in a cornfield.

Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear said his office had resumed the investigation after the couple's son, Matt Phillips, met him two years ago. He feared that the case would never be resolved.

"He feared that the case would be blocked and feared that justice would be done," Beshear said in a video statement released Saturday. "We hope this is an example of a case where you never stop asking for justice, when you never give up on a case in which you can actually achieve important results for our families."

The authorities did not give any reason for the massacre. At the time of the murders, Martin lived in front of the victims.

In an interview with WSMV-TV in Louisville in 2016, Martin claimed that Calvin Phillips had an affair with his wife – but denied any involvement in the killings.

Shortly after the killings, Martin moved to North Carolina.

American Airlines said Martin was a pilot for their PSA Airlines subsidiary since January 2018. His photo ID shows a man in a pilot's uniform.

Martin has been held without bail in Jefferson County, Kentucky, and is expected to be extradited to Christian County and brought to trial on Monday, officials said.
