Pirelli reveals gaps between the components of F1 2019

Although the Italian company admits that the delta lap time may be more accurate once the last test is done, the first estimates suggest a discrepancy of 0.6 between the most flexible tire.

For 2019, Pirelli has changed the way tire compounds are labeled. There are five basic compounds, named C1 to C5, and three will be chosen for each race – and will be called soft, medium and hard for events.

Pirelli tested all five compounds, with C1 (the hardest) estimated to be 0.8 to 1.0 seconds slower than C2.

Mario Isola, Pirelli's race director, said the gap was big enough, because: "The C1 is a little too hard because of the coldness." In my expectation, if we come here with the C1, the delta should be less, because the C1 is working better and will be closer to the C2. "

Between C2 and C3, Isola estimated a gap of 0.7 seconds, while arguing that the gap between C3 and C4, plus C4 and C5, was 0.6 seconds. .

Estimated Pirelli's tire difference:

C1 to C2: 0.8 to 1.0 seconds

C2 to C3: 0.7 seconds

C3 to C4: 0.6 seconds

C4 to C5: 0.6 seconds

Isola said that having a gap of about 0.7 seconds between the majority of compounds matched what the company had hoped for this season.

"The track is not very long, so 0.7 s is a good number, considering the fact that the goal was 0.8 s and 0.9," he said. declared. "So on a longer track, it could happen.

"Moreover, the C5 is not the complex of this circuit, the C5 has a hard time guaranteeing a very fast lap, and it is difficult to make a lap with the C5 in Barcelona, as the circuit is more aggressive and the tarmac is rougher than it was a year ago. "
