U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Pittsburgh seized two shipments of fake COVID-19 vaccination cards shipped from China.
CBP seized the first of two international packages on August 24. CBP officers determined that the 20-card package had a “poor quality appearance.”

CBP said the cards were being shipped to someone in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. This person, whose identity has not been disclosed, is not part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or a certified medical entity, CBP said.

Officers intercepted a second shipment of telephone vaccination cards intended for the same person on September 7. This package contained 50 fake COVID vaccination cards.
The two international packages had been shipped from China, CBP said.
“The coronavirus and its variants continue to pose a serious threat to the health and safety of American citizens, as do unscrupulous sellers who sell counterfeit COVID vaccination cards,” said the port director of CBP in Pittsburgh , William Fitting, in a statement, “Customs and Border Protection will continue to intercept counterfeit products, such as these fake vaccination cards, which threaten our nation, our people and our economy. “
No further details were disclosed. An investigation is underway.

To date, CBP said, agents in Chicago, Memphis, Anchorage, Alaska have seized more than 6,000 counterfeit COVID-19 vaccination cards.
