Pittsburgh Pirates’ Owen Kellington Draft No.107

Pittsburgh Pirates continue to strengthen their strong draft class with the addition of pitcher Owen Kellington

With their 4th round pick, the Pittsburgh Pirates added right-hander Owen Kellington. The young right-handed pitcher was selected from U-32 High School in Montpellier, Vermont, and signed up to UCONN.

Kellington led his high school team to a Division 2 championship during his senior season. During his senior season, Kellington had a 0.22 ERA and a 7-0 record. He was also named Gatorade Player of the Year for New Jersey during the 2020-2021 season.

He also had 133 strikeouts compared to 8 walks and a batting average of 0.667. He also had seven home runs during the season. His strikeout count is extremely impressive as he struck out just over 9 out of 10 batters that he struck out.

Owen has a fastball which, when performing in Perfect Play, is around 87, a curveball which is at 77 and a change around 81. His best pitch to throw was his curve ball which has a strong. potential for improvement during his time in the minor leagues.
