Pittsburgh Steelers interview Pep Hamilton for offensive coordinator

The news released Thursday evening has been confirmed. The Steelers will interview Pep Hamilton for their vacant offensive coordinator position on Friday.

Hamilton was instrumental in the development of retired Colts quarterback Andrew Luck and rookie quarterback Justin Herbert in Los Angeles, where he is currently quarterbacks coach. Luck had 40 touchdown passes, a career-high in 2014, and Herbert broke nearly every NFL rookie pass records imaginable in 2020.

If the Steelers really want Hamilton, they better act quickly. It has been a popular commodity after Herbert’s numbers this season.

Even though Matt Canada was expected to be promoted to the job, Pittsburgh interviewed former Browns head coach Hue Jackson and now Hamilton.

These interviews could simply be a matter of complying with the Rooney rule, which states that teams must interview a minority candidate for a vacant coordinator position. It could also signal that big changes are coming to quarterback in Pittsburgh.
