Pixar’s Soul made history on Christmas week when it took the # 1 spot on Nielsen broadcast ratings for Christmas week.
The computer animated film made history for Pixar and its parent company, The Walt Disney Company, by becoming the first feature film to reach streaming ratings, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Behind Soul was the workplace comedy The Office, which has been a big player for Netflix in recent years.

Soul was ranked number one for the week of December 21-27, with viewers streaming approximately 1.67 billion minutes.
That would be equivalent to watching the film throughout about 16.5 million times, as the film is 101 minutes long, although many viewers counted in the streaming numbers only watched portions of the film.
Soul plays Jamie Foxx as his lead character Joe Gardner, a gifted jazz pianist who struggles to progress as an artist while feeling bound by students who help pay the bills.
After a reckless accident, he finds himself in a land beyond life where he is tasked with helping a wandering soul (Tina Fey) find his passion so that it can be born into a body.
The film has near universal fame and currently boasts an impressive 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Soul debuted on the Disney + streaming service, but unlike its less well-received live-action Mulan remake, subscribers didn’t have to pay any extra fees to access it.

The Office had been available to Netflix scribers for years and was among the service’s most popular offerings, but it switched to NBC Peacock’s new streaming service early in the New Year.
The streamer has multiple price points and the show’s first two seasons are available for free, but seasons three through nine are only available to paid subscribers.
In order to attract new viewers, Peacock offers expanded versions of some episodes that incorporate deleted scenes.
Peacock is not among the streamers surveyed by Nielsen at this time, but he and HBO Max are expected to be added soon.

Due to the proximity of the Christmas holidays, viewers turned to holiday movies to mark the season.
Jim Carrey’s live-action adaptation of How The Grinch Stole Christmas was watched for 705 million minutes to reach sixth place, and Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles 2 was watched for 660 minutes for ninth place.
The top 10 streaming were The Crown (700 million minutes), Grey’s Anatomy (691 million minutes) and Criminal Minds (648 million minutes), all available to stream on Netflix.
