Pixel 4a buyers pushed towards 4a 5G in Google Store overhaul

This year, Google’s two low-budget “a” phones are unanimously praised and highly sought after. The Pixel 4a first launched in August, while the 4a 5G followed with the Pixel 5 this fall. With the holiday shopping season underway, a change to the Google Store reflects how this year’s premium version of Series 4a is gaining in importance.

After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the Google Store revamped its home page for the holiday shopping season. The top carousel places the Pixel 4a 5G, Chromecast with Google TV, and Nest Audio in winter scenes and describes how they will be useful this season. It’s a continuation of this summer’s slogan campaign that featured comedian Fred Armisen.

In the center is the “Pixel 4a with 5G” or what the store calls “Google Family Portrait Maker” to “capture memories that will last a lifetime”. Besides being the first thing people see when they visit store.google.com, another change has been made.

The Pixel 4a product page isn’t just about the $ 349 phone anymore. On the contrary, it’s used to push the 5G variant to $ 499 quite aggressively.

To begin with, the page name changed from “Pixel 4a” to “Pixel 4a Phones”. The main slogan is “Two useful phones. A happy portfolio, ”Google then proceeded to showcase the phones side by side.

This is followed by a list of four features. The first three – low price, ultra-wide lens, and battery – all apply to the Pixel 4a 5G. The standard Pixel 4a is only shown in the fourth Titan M security description.

What basically happened here is that Google co-opted the Pixel 4a product page with details on how the 5G version offers additional features that could serve as a reason to spend an extra $ 150. The form keeps the same URL as before, but it is now the “family” 4a.

As such, Google does not provide a dedicated retail site for the Pixel 4a, while there is now a link to the 4a 5G specs on the menu. This is in addition to the regular 4a 5G roster available from the September Launch Night In event.

This all follows Google’s trade-in price increase, especially for the Pixels 2 and 3, when purchasing the 4a 5G. Likewise, Google Fi only scaled back this phone this year.

That’s not to say the Pixel 4a 5G doesn’t deserve the praise, but it does reveal how Google is pushing users to buy the slightly more expensive phone with a better processor, dual cameras, 5G connectivity, a bigger screen, and a battery. .
