Pixel phones offer the best of Google – bugs and all. The flagship Pixel 5 is full of good stuff, but it also seems to include a more frustrating feature at times – a bug that causes all system sounds to play at maximum volume, no matter how smooth you try to adjust.

For those affected, the issue affects all system sounds on the device, from touch sounds and dialing noises to camera clicks. Some claim it affects other sounds like WhatsApp voice record button tone as well, but it does not affect ringtone or notifications volume, although system sounds are said to be controlled by the same. cursor. It brings out everyday things like taking a picture or taking a screenshot like a sore thumb, especially if you’re around other people.

Setting the ringer and notifications volume to silent works fine, but even a small step up sets all system sounds to maximum.

Our own testing confirms this issue is present on the Pixel 5. Google’s latest device does not appear to match its system sound levels with ringing and notification levels like other phones such as the Pixel 4 XL do. .

Hopefully, we’ll see Google release a patch in the next monthly security patch. Until then, there are a few things you can do to alleviate the discomfort, like silencing camera sounds right from the Camera app’s settings, or rotating your entire phone to not disturb before taking a screenshot – but it doesn’t look like there is any real solutions for now.

We are able to confirm on one of our Pixel 5s that the January 2021 patch does indeed fix the issue with loud system sounds, as they are again cursor controlled.
