A gas leak likely blew up a house in Plano on Monday, injuring six people, investigators said Tuesday morning.

Police and firefighters were dispatched to the house shortly after 4:40 p.m. after several people called 911 to report an explosion at a house on the 4400 block of Cleveland Drive and the house was “completely gone.”

The explosion sent debris flying hundreds of feet away as the shock wave was felt up to a mile away.

When first responders arrived, they formed a search party to begin searching the rubble for survivors. One person was taken from the collapsed house and taken to Medical City Plano. This person’s condition is currently not known on Tuesday.

Five other people, including two adults and three children, lived in neighboring houses and also required medical attention after the explosion. The adults were also sent to Medical City Plano while the children were sent to the Children’s Medical Center Plano. The severity of their injuries is also unknown.

The only resident of a house directly east of the destroyed house was not injured in the blast.

The Plano Fire Marshal says the explosion was most likely caused by a gas leak inside the house, but further investigation will be needed to determine exactly where the gas leak was located at the inside the house, ”said a press release from Plano Fire-Rescue.

The statement said the extensive damage to the home “will hamper these ongoing investigations,” but that no other home is in danger.

Clean-up crews worked through the night at the center of the explosion.

Plano Police, ATF and FBI investigators ruled out that hazardous materials or explosives were involved in the blast, the statement said.
