HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) – A Spanish renewable energy plant located in central Kansas is increasing its wind power production capacity.
The Hutchinson News reports that Siemens Gamesa's Hutchinson plant could primarily manufacture one type of turbine three years ago. The factory will soon produce five.
Factory manager Danilo Bezerra said the company's newest product, a 4.5-megawatt wind turbine nacelle, would go into production in the spring of 2020.
Bezerra says the new turbine is larger and about 50% more complex than other factory offerings. It's also so heavy that the plant has to manufacture and ship the turbine in several parts.
He says the plant plans to hire up to 35 more people once the new turbine will be in production. The factory currently employs around 280 full-time workers on the production line.
