Platinum wants to bring Star Fox Zero to Switch

PlatinumGames has stated that it is ready to bring the Wii U Star Fox Zero title to Nintendo Switch.

Released in 2016 for Wii U, Star Fox Zero was co-developed by Platinum and Nintendo’s own EPD team, with designer Mario Shigeru Miyamoto overseeing the project.

Five years after its original release, Zero remains one of the only major Wii U titles to have been ported to Nintendo’s latest console yet. As one of the more controversial Nintendo releases of recent years, it could also benefit more than most from a remaster.

Speaking to VGC this week, Platinum Studio Director Atsushi Inaba said that if Nintendo was interested, the developer would “definitely” be interested in considering a new version of Zero. However, any potential change would rest with Mr. Miyamoto.

When asked if Platinum would be interested in a Star Fox Zero Switch port, Inaba said: I would love to bring one of these older titles to new platforms.

“It kind of depends on what’s in the realm of real possibility, but yes, if the opportunity presents itself, it’s definitely something we’d like to think about.”

Most of the criticism of Zero was aimed at its complicated control scheme, in which gamers split their attention between the TV and the gamepad.

A potential Switch port, which is expected to work in Portable mode on a single screen, would presumably remove this controversial element. However, Inaba stressed that all design decisions should be led by Nintendo.

“The important thing to remember is that because it’s Nintendo’s intellectual property, the ideas come from Miyamoto-san himself,” he said. We have to respect what Miyamoto-san wants to do.

“Of course at that point there was a lot of talk between Platinum and Nintendo, but if the opportunity arose to bring Star Fox Zero back to Switch, it would be more about what he would like to do at this opportunity., and of course we would respect that again.

PlatinumGames has stated that it is ready to bring the Wii U Star Fox Zero title to Nintendo Switch.

When asked if it was difficult to give his opinion to someone as prestigious as Mr. Miyamoto, Inaba replied:

“Sir. Hashimoto was working on Star Fox as a director at the time, but he’s no longer with [PlatinumGames]. He was probably the one who had the hardest time conveying his ideas to Mr. Miyamoto, because aside from his personal personality, he is an industry giant and someone many creators admire. So it takes a lot of courage or anyone to go to him with ideas or comments.

Nintendo has actively integrated Wii U ports into its software strategy for Switch. Although Wii U hardware sold poorly at just 13.5 million units, it has been home to a strong lineup of critically acclaimed proprietary software that has so far thrived when given a second chance with. the wider Switch audience.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – a version of the 2014 Wii U game with additional characters – is Switch’s best-selling game to date with a whopping 37 million units sold in June 2021.

Meanwhile, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, Xenoblade Chronicles, Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, and The Wonderful 101 have also been ported to Switch recently. years.
