The Nintendo Switch has seen a lot of games ported from the Wii U generation, but many fans are still waiting. Star Fox Zero. PlatinumGames noted last August that it has no idea if Nintendo will bring the game to the hybrid system, and mentioned that a future port might not even be something it’s necessarily involved with.
Today, just over a year later, Platinum director Atsushi Inaba explained to our friends at VGC how the studio was “definitely” ready to carry the Wii U Star Fox entry – if the opportunity presented itself. Part of the reason Inaba wants to do this is simply to make the game accessible to more people:
“It’s not cool that people can’t play older games because they’re stuck off the platform, so of course if anything was possible we’d like to transfer one of those older titles on newer platforms.
“It kind of depends on what’s in the realm of real possibility, but yes, if the opportunity presents itself, it’s definitely something we’d like to think about.”
If anything were to go forward, Inaba says some design decisions (referring to a question about the Wii U game’s unique control scheme) would likely rest with Nintendo:
“The important thing to remember is that, because this is Nintendo’s IP, the ideas come from Miyamoto-san himself … if the opportunity arose to bring Star Fox Zero back to Switch, it would be more. a matter of would like to do in this opportunity, and of course we would respect that again. “
Would you like Platinum to manage a Star Fox Zero port for Switch? Did you play this game when it arrived on Wii U in 2016? What do you think years later? Oh, and here’s the latest news from Bayonetta 3.
