Peloton Interactive’s redesigned, lower-cost treadmill will be relaunched in the United States next week, the company said on Tuesday.
Priced at $ 2,495, the Tread machine is expected to go on sale in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom on Monday, the company said in a press release that uses the word “security” nine times. The reintroduction of the tread comes after a recall in May as well as Peloton’s more expensive Tread + machines. Customers will also have to pay $ 39 per month for practice programming and Peloton’s live lessons.

The new tread includes a four-digit code to unlock the product belt before use. It also has a physical security key that can be pulled out for a quick stop if needed, Peloton said. Additionally, the speed and incline buttons are on the side rails of the treadmill to make them easily accessible as they align with the natural swing of the runner’s arms.
Peloton is bringing the product back to market after the company recalled both its Tread and more expensive Tread + machines in May, after first recoil. The reminders have come after more than 70 incidents, including the death of a child and 29 other cases of children with second and third degree fractures, lacerations and abrasions.
The recalls came a month after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned households with children and pets to stop using both products, and two months after Peloton warned customers to keep children and pets away from exercise equipment. The CPSC cited several reports of children “trapped, trapped and pulled under” the rear roller of the product, and said Peloton had received 72 reports of adult users, children, pets and various objects being pulled. under the back of his treadmills.
Peloton then apologized for resisting the CPSC’s request to recall the machines, which weigh up to 450 pounds, and halted sales of the Tread + to work on hardware modifications.
The Tread, meanwhile, was recalled because its touchscreen could come off and fall, posing a risk of injury to users. Those who purchased the earlier version of the tread were offered a free repair or refund.
Tread + owners have until November 2022 to request a full refund. Peloton has not yet given a timetable for the return of its Tread + to the market.
Peloton is best known for its stationary bikes, but introduced the treadmill about three years ago and now calls it the Tread +. Approximately 125,000 of the Tread + machines were sold online and in Peloton showrooms from September 2018 through early 2021 for approximately $ 4,295 each.
