PlayStation communities closed in April according to Sony

Sony is abandoning the PlayStation Communities feature, according to an email Sony sent to owners of PlayStation 4. PlayStation Communities will be closed in April 2021.

PlayStation Communities is a service that allows PlayStation 4 users to create groups on various games and topics. Group members can use Communities to find people with common interests, post messages, form groups, and recruit for gaming sessions. In March 2020, Sony discontinued a PlayStation Communities mobile app that made it easier to see. social service.

This is not the first time that we have heard of the removal of the service. The patch notes accompanying the beta version of the current 8.5 update mention the discontinuation of the PlayStation Communities service. This could mean that Update 8.5 will be released in April 2021, but it should be noted that Sony may discontinue service before an update is made to remove UI functionality from PlayStation 4.

Sony has not announced a replacement for the service on the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 5 does, however, offer a selection of social features that perform some of the same functions as the PlayStation Communities service. These features include group multiplayer launch, game hubs with community content, screen sharing with multitasking, and Game Base gathering space.

Since Sony didn’t announce a specific date in April, it’s probably a good idea to go ahead and tear down all the communities you’re a part of.
