Modding Cafe YouTube channel created the world’s first water-cooled PlayStation 5 console. The next-gen console generates quite a bit of heat, requiring a large cooling fan. However, water cooling is a quieter option and takes up less space. The plastic case of the Nhenhophach modder’s version makes it as tall as a traditional PS5, but it is apparently working on more versions, including one that will be commercially available. The modder’s YouTube channel tends to focus more on PC versions, and his next project will apparently integrate the water-cooled PS5 into a PC, according to Video Games Chronicle. The water-cooled look is easily the highlight, but the system design also has plenty of accents that PlayStation fans should love! From the system logo on the water tank to the controller symbols cut out of the frame, it’s not hard to imagine PlayStation fans really falling in love with this design. It certainly has a unique look, but the same can be said of the official PS5 design! With the fan gone, it is possible that future versions of Nhenhophach’s PS5 will be smaller. It will be interesting to see what these models look like, especially which one will be available for purchase.
It’s always interesting to see the different ideas modders bring to the table. Most PlayStation fans would just be happy to secure a PS5 let alone a water cooled PS5, but there are plenty of gamers who would be happy to have a version that produces less noise! Water-cooled video game consoles have yet to be adopted by the industry, but it wouldn’t be surprising if that happened in the future.
While the PS5 has only been around since November, it looks like modders have been working hard to find alternate versions of the hardware to make and even offer for purchase. An 18k gold-plated version of the system is available online, with a pretty steep price tag of £ 8,000. It’s significantly less practical than the water-cooled version, but for those looking for a shiny display piece, it might be worth it!
